Continental creates new digital tool for checking truck tires

Tire and automotive technology supplier Continental Tire introduced the ContiConnect LITE. The product aims to act as a bridge between tire sensors and tire management. The ContiConnect LITE is a simple and free-of-charge gateway to selected ContiConnect functionality through a smartphone, the company notes. With this new digital tool, the company is allowing fleets and truck drivers to test the state-of-the-art system for free to show them that routine tire checks can improve the overall health and maintenance of their vehicle’s tires. The tool is for those who have Generation II sensors or Continental Intelligent Tires, but have not yet signed up for a Yard Reader or a Live System. ContiConnect LITE gives users the opportunity to access their tire data through Bluetooth, connecting to the ContiConnect On-Site App and sharing tire pressure and temperature (TPMS) with the user. The user must register online to gain instant information into their tires’ conditions. Users can create, manage and configure up to five vehicles and track the tire data. By checking the condition of tires, the ContiConnect LITE brings benefit, especially to smaller fleets, the company says.

Emerson’s compact PC built to connect industrial floor to cloud

Global technology and software company Emerson unveiled the new PACSystems IPC 2010 Compact Industrial PC (IPC). The rugged industrial computer is designed to handle a wide range of machine and discrete part manufacturing automation applications. It is also designed to serve manufacturing sites and OEM machine builders who need a ruggedized, compact, durable IPC to cost-effectively support their Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), among other digital transformation initiatives. The company says that the IPC 2010 addresses this by pre-loading the PACEdge industrial edge platform and elements of Movicon.NExT SCADA software, which helps users run applications quickly using browser-based configuration. To maximize reliability and minimize user effort, provisions are included for keeping the software platform current and passively maintained, it notes. “Many customers undergoing a digital transformation want to start small and earn trust as they seek out value from edge-enabled applications,” said William Paczkowski, product manager for the IPC 2010 for Emerson’s discrete automation business, in a statement. “The IPC 2010 is specifically designed as a pre-packaged and economical solution so they can get running quickly and cost effectively.”
