Continental introduces EV compatible tire
Tire and automotive technology supplier Continental released its first EV compatible truck/bus tire in the United States: the Conti HAU 5. The tire is a metro all-position tire designed specifically for urban city buses. The company understands the need for tires that can withstand the additional weight load that comes with electric vehicles, especially as a premium tire manufacturer for both original equipment and replacement markets, it says. Continental’s EV compatible tire is designed with this in mind, the company adds. “As an EV compatible tire, the Conti HAU 5 is able to fulfill the needs of electric vehicles and help to reduce combustion engine emissions over the long term,” said Shaun Uys, head of Continental’s truck tire replacement business in the U.S., in a statement. “In combination with its EV Compatible checkmark, this tire was designed with the needs of urban city buses in mind and has features that ensure safety and comfortability for passengers. We have seen the increase in the market share of electric and hybrid vehicles, and we wanted to make sure that we provided a tire that not only fit the needs of where the market is today, but also where the market will be in the next few years.” The Conti HAU 5 is a metro service all-position tire, prioritizing passenger safety and comfort, and was engineered with a new tread compound, the company notes. The tire ensures a smooth and quiet ride, enhancing the commuting experience for both drivers and passengers, it says.
IDEC delivers enhanced durability, visibility and functionality with new display
Expanding its operator interface (OI) family, IDEC Corp. has added an HG1J Series touchscreen. Using the latest innovations, the device provides vivid visualizations and responsive multi-touch operation in an extremely compact form factor, the company notes. This allows the technology to be used in more applications than ever, it adds. The HG1J Series is the successor of the HG1G Series HMIs, and it provides an upgrade path for existing installations as well. The control features an HMI display with a projected capacitive touch panel (PCAP) advanced technology, which saves space and improves performance, the company says. Additionally, it is water- and scratch-resistant. It also has a glass-top design that is wear-resistant and delivers a long life with a 50,000-hour-rated backlight. The HG1J is engineered for any environment. The HMI is accessed through IDEC standard WindOI-NV4 software, an intuitive software. The company says this software is easy-to-use and intuitive with a drag-and-drop interface, along with an extensive image library. The display has two USB-A ports that support flash drives for data logging and more, as well as dongles for speakers, WiFi and BlueTooth. An embedded Ethernet port provides users with easy access for remote maintenance and communication. Its adept HMI operator interface solution makes it the best solution for space-limited industrial applications, the company says.

Siemens releases industrial 5G router
The first industrial 5G router from Siemens now is available for the U.S. market. The Scalance MUM856-1 is a device that connects local industrial applications to public 5G and 4G (LTE) mobile wireless networks. The router can be used to remotely monitor and service plants, machines, control elements and other industrial devices through a public 5G network flexibility and with high data transmission rates, the company says. In all industries, demand for this type of solution is increasing. The device also integrates into private 5G networks. The company notes that the Scalance MUM856-1 supports future-oriented applications, like mobile robots, autonomous vehicles or augmented reality applications. It features a robust IP65 housing and can also be used outside the cabinet. The Scalance MUM856-1 supports Release 16 of the 5G standard “to ensure the powerful connection of Ethernet-based subnetworks and automation devices,” the company notes. Best-in-class security functions are included to monitor data traffic and protect against unauthorized access in, it says. The device automatically switches to 4G networks when no 5G network is available. “For companies requiring reliable service in remote areas, such as in water stations or electric power sub-stations, there is a need for solutions with stable bandwidth transmission for remote service or video transmission,” said Joel Green, business development manager for wireless and remote networks at Siemens Digital Industries, in a statement. “With innovative 5G communications technologies, considerably more bandwidth with greater reliability is available at the edges of radio cells, while the average data rate for users within a radio cell increases.”
Ardagh Glass Packaging launches American-made celebration bottle
Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America (AGP-North America) introduced a new 500-ml Celebration bottle in flint, or clear, glass to add to its growing portfolio of American-made bottles. The Celebration bottle is available in limited quantities for purchase on AGP-North America’s BOB site (BuyOurBottles). The bottle complements the existing 500-ml Celebration in amber, or brown, glass available from BOB’s collection of both beer and beverage bottles. The bottles come pre-packaged in plain craft cardboard cases with partition dividers holding 12 glass bottles in a case. The bottles are made using high-quality, traditional flint glass and designed and manufactured in the United States, the company notes. “Ardagh Glass Packaging continues to evolve its portfolio of American-made glass bottles on the BOB site to meet the demand of craft brewers and beverage producers,” said Rashmi Markan, vice president, beer and beverage for AGP-North America, in a statement. “The new 500-ml Celebration bottles in flint complement a wide variety of beverage brands who are interested in larger-format bottles, offering brand differentiation with a trusted, sustainable glass bottle that fully protects the flavor of their beverage.” AGP-North America launched the BOB site for beer in 2012, making it the first website to offer craft brewers the ability to purchase beer bottles online in pallet quantities direct from the manufacturer, using a credit card or PayPal, the company notes. BOB’s portfolio now consists of 11 beer and beverage bottles in both amber and flint glass color options, which the company says gives craft brewers and beverage producers increased flexibility for packaging their products.

The site marks another step in a whirlwind year of expansion for the global company, which celebrated its 40th anniversary. The opening represents planned investment of $80 million in the facility, including investment in “innovative technology equipment and infrastructure,” the company says. This quadruples Beontag’s output capacity in North America, it notes. “I am looking forward to the team here helping to further our company vision of innovation and excellence across every sector we operate in, pushing the boundaries of what is possible for quality and sustainability,” said Ricardo Lobo, CEO, in a statement.
Emerson: Afag is now part of Emerson. As a result, Afag’s feeding and handling solutions have been integrated into Emerson’s automation portfolio. All content on Afag’s website was migrated to Emerson’s site under the AVENTICS brand. The migration streamlines Emerson’s comprehensive automation offerings, the company says, which makes it easier for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to access the solutions they need in a single location. Bringing Afag’s feeding and handling products under the AVENTICS umbrella allows for OEMs to benefit from single-source access to a broader range of machine automation experts, in addition to pneumatic and electric solutions, it notes.
